Adult Elective Classes - Opportunities for Growth

Foundations is a 8-week topical series on the basics of our Christan faith and is held at 11:00 AM on Sundays in Room 102. Current class runs from May 3 through July 5 (not meeting May 24 or 31).

Preparing for Marriage is a four-week class dealing with topics vital to a good marriage and is taught by Pastor Keith and Pauline Batchelor.

War of Words: Getting to the Heart of Your Communication Struggles
This 12-week class is designed to transform your current way of communicating into a style that will be what God designed it to be from the beginning.  This extremely practical class starts by taking a look at God’s design behind communication and ends with how to go about changing how you communicate.  This class would be great for parent/teen relationships, husband/wife relationships, small group relationships, and any other relationship in which communication is essential. For more information call the Counseling Ministries office at 425-488-4121 or email SusieD@chccbw.org. Marriage: A Portrait of God’s Grace
A ten-week class designed to give a detailed overview of marriage from God’s Word.  Both the newly-wed couple as well as the seasoned marriage can benefit from this class.

Changing Hearts Changing Lives
Have you ever wondered why you are the way you are? This class will explain how God has called us to be instruments of change in His redemptive hands. It will provide tools for personal and ministry use. Video series. Cost is $20. Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 PM.

Life Institute

 

What is The Program?
The Canyon Hills Life Institute is comprised of six classes that can be completed in two years.

When do Classes Meet?
Life Institute classes meet Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Canyon Hills.

Course Descriptions
    1. Knowing the Faith—A Survey of Doctrine
        A survey and summary of the ten major doctrines of the Bible as follows:
              God, The Bible, Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit, Angels, Man, Sin, Salvation, The Church, 
              End Times. The emphasis is on knowing God more fully while understanding and practicing   
              sound  theology.

    2. Defending the Faith—Christian Apologetics
        1 Peter 3:15 says, “...always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for 
        
a reason for the hope that is in you.”
        The apologetics class will equip the student to make a sound defense of the Gospel. 
        Topics to be studied include:
              The existence of God,The problem of evil, Atheism and agnosticism, The exclusivity of 
               Christ, Other religions and world views.

    3. Learning the Faith, Part 1—Old Testament SurveyOld Testament Survey
            A broad overview and survey of the Old Testament designed to emphasize the
             structure, theme and message of the old Testament and each of its 39 individual 
            books in order to provide understanding of God’s self-revelation and His plan of 
            redemption.

    4. Appreciating the Faith—Church History
            This course is designed to introduce the principal people; the major political, historical
             and cultural developments; the main religious movements; the doctrinal issues which
             have influence and shaped the Christian church through its 2000 year history.

    5. Learning the Faith, Part 2—New Testament Survey
            An overview survey of the New Testament focusing on the theme, purpose, structure 
            and basic content of each individual book and relating each book to the whole Bible.
             Strong emphasis is also given to the applicational message of each book.

    6. Expressing the Faith—How to Study the Bible
            This is a four week class designed to give the student practical tools to get the most out of God's
             Word. The class will focus on developing a strong consistent method of interpreting and 
            applying the Bible. Participants will learn to identify and interpret genres of literature within
             the biblical text, such as narrative, prophecy, and apocalypse. The class will also include a brief 
            history of hermeneutical thought in the church.

Esther "It's Tough Being a Woman"
Join Beth Moore in a personal examination of this great story of threat and dliverance. As it was tough being a woman in Esther's day, it's tough today. A 10-week study features personal daily assignments and weekly group sessions with video.

Precept on Precept Sudy of Matthew 
Join us for this 15-week video and workbook study. You'll gain a deeper understanding of the resurrection and its power in your life. Then take up the chllenge to share the gospel with others.
