September 2008 Update from Doug & Shelly Kallestad

Global Outreach Ministry

Iberoamerican Ministries Latin America

Praise and Thanksgiving

  • Praise God for His providing all the funds necessary to make an unplanned but necessary trip to the States later in September
  • Praise God for continued attendance in the new church plant in Los Angeles, Chile. There is now a solid nucleus of 12.

Ministry Needs

  • Pray for more workers for the church planting efforts in the south of Chile. Lift Benjamin and Rosita before the Lord for this purpose.
  • Pray for resources to complete the next stage of development of the community center in Lautaro, Chile. This second phase includes a school for Mapuche students.
  • Pray for the church in Iraq that the team would have wisdom integrating new believers and discipling them up in the Word.
  • Pray for D. as he prepares for entrance into a difficult central asian country, guidance, protection and provision
  • Pray for unity among all of our churches as we prepare to hold a retreat for all of our workers in 2009. We are currently raising funds to help each worker return to Chile      to be able to attend this retreat to be blessed, renewed and retooled.

Personal Requests

  • Pray for God’s guidance as Kyle decides on his future studies
  • Pray for wisdom as we mentor the elders of the Oriente church in Santiago and train new leaders.
  • Pray for wisdom for Shelly as she finishes homeschooling with Kyle and plans out the final years of homeschooling for Lori and Niki.

Summary of the winter months

It has been a great couple of months. June started out with Doug’s graduation. He finally finished his doctorate. It has been a long but very rewarding road. We hope that his final dissertation will enhance the work in Southern Chile among the Mapuche and establish helpful concepts for our church planting efforts among different ethnic people groups.

After returning to Chile Doug travelled to Ecuador to help three teams that worked hard to inaugurate the new church and community center in El Recreo, Ecuador. The church in Ecuador is growing. It is exciting to see the Ecuadorian churches reaching out to their communities in diverse and creative ways. One of the churches there has begun a school that ministers to over 80 children and their families.

The Leadership Training Institute held the last courses of the semester with visiting professors in Santiago, Lautaro, Peru and Ecuador. The Institute begins the second semester in august with a full load in each location. We hope to have about 10 graduates this year. There are currently approximately 200 students participating in the leadership training.

In July the Oriente church prepared and sent a team down south to the city of Los Angeles, Chile (not the one in California) for a week long evangelistic crusade before the official inauguration of the new church plant there. The Oriente church sent their pastor to establish this new church. The church now has a nucleus of 12 and Pastor tono and his family have moved there to minister in this city. Doug continues to preach in Oriente and is mentoring the group of elders as they lead the Oriente church forward.

We are now working in five different continents. Twenty-three churches have been planted in six different countries with plans on the way for more. Please keep praying!

Thank you for your faithfulness!!
