REHABILITATION CENTER OPENED!
VICTORY IN CHRIST
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ of CHHC,
We greet you in this new 2008 year. Let God’s grace and success be in all your work and projects. Let His Love, peace and joy come into every house and bring an atmosphere of Heavens. Thank you so much for your kind and loving hearts, your prayers and support.
In this letter we would like to share blessings and tell about those events that we had in 2007.
We had dreamed for a long time about a ministry to addicts. And finally in April of 2007 we opened a rehabilitation center for drug addicts and alcoholics. This ministry started 2 missionaries from Perm’, who came to our church. After 3 months of rehabilitation a person can stay in a center as a counselor and serve new comers. At this moment 4 people got full rehabilitation and 7 are in a process of rehabilitation. We also started a support ministry for families of drug addicts and alcoholics. We call them co-addicts. We wonder how God changes people’s lives. With a help of your monthly financial support for St. Peter’s church we can rent a house for rehabilitation center and help ministers there. At this moment we rent a house in a Kursk city but we understand that for future development of this center we need a house outside of a city. For this purpose we purchased an old house in 20 km outside of our city. Walls of this house are strong but it needs a good remodeling. Our plans are that in spring of 2008 rehabilitation center would move into that house and rehabs would work on remodeling at the same time.
After my with Lylia trip to Naltchik we keep in touch with Pastor Pavel Pogodin. In the future we plan to organize a mission trip to Middle East.
In July and August of 2007, we had a children’s and a youth’ camp. There were 250 kids and 90% of them were nonbelievers. Those kids could hear Good News about God and make a right choice. It was wonderful time. We call camp – “heaven on earth”. In this work we collaborate with committee of social defense and this committee sends to our camps children from difficult families. God makes such miracles and Youth state social committee of Kursk city realized the importance of this work and helped us with organization and finances. We wrote a letter to administration that we are planning to have camps in summer of 2008.
For those children who were in our camps we organized 2 sport clubs: “Alfa” – for younger kids; “Omega” – for older kids, youth. Once a week children meet in those clubs, play sports and study the Bible. Also we have a Super Book club as a Sunday school for kids.
Children’s ministry of St. Peter’s church has widened its directions and now there is a team that visits orphanages regularly. They organized a Christmas celebration for those kids. Members of our church prepared gifts for them. And at the end of this celebration every child received a gift. Also our church gave to that orphanage a satellite dish so that those kids could watch children’s Christian programs.
In youth ministry we put personal relationships with God as a priority. We have a plan to work in a city through our youth social organization “Movement” and city administration helped us in finding a place where we could meet with non-Christians. Also youth makes parties “Pro-Life” for friends.
We continue meetings for leaders and morning and night prayers.
December 14-16, 2007 we had church anniversary. One of these nights was a concert of one popular Christian group. Because of this event many people non-believers and believers from all churches could meet together.
In March and October we had water baptism. There are some people who came to church through rehabilitation center. There are also boys and girls who come to cell groups and worship services after summer camp.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ we are so thankful to you from all our heart for all your financial support that you give us for building of our church. We received all money that you sent to us and we are very worried that we still can’t start work there full time. We still have a problem with documents on rental of the land. Mayor of our city doesn’t give us permit for building because of this. And at the same time they try to withhold the permit as long as they can. It’s a spiritual battle. We hired a lawyer who is working on this problem and he says he needs 2 months to finish it. We’ve been looking to this moment very much.
The theme of 2008 in our church is Victory in Christ. We believe that His victory will come into our ministry, work, and building of our church. Our desire that every one of us would renew a covenant with Christ and would seek His face with thirst.
May the Lord bless you!!!
With love,
Pastor of St.Peter’s church – Yuri Mamontov
