Leadership

Our Leadership

Canyon Hills is an Elder-led church

THE SERVANT LEADERS OF CANYON HILLS Community Church is the Eldership. This team of co-equal pastors and elders is made up of men who are spiritually qualified (I Timothy 3, Titus 1), and equally responsible (1 Peter 5). At Canyon Hills, the title of Pastor is used to describe the elders who are in full-time paid ministry, and the title of Lay Elder describes the elders who still work in the marketplace. The Eldership is responsible for guarding (Titus 1:9&version=ESV&src=tools" target="_BLANK">Titus 1:9), guiding (1 Timothy 5:17&version=ESV&src=tools" target="_BLANK">1 Timothy 5:17), and growing (1 Timothy 4:12-13&version=ESV&src=tools" target="_BLANK">1 Timothy 4:12-13) the church in fulfilling its mission.

Dr. Steve Walker

Senior Pastor

In starting Canyon Hills, Tammi and I had no specific strategy – no five, ten or fifteen-year plans. We had only one mission: to make more and better disciples of Christ. Since then, God has turned Canyon Hills into a world-influencing ministry.

Worship Pastor

I have had the privilege of serving on the Canyon Hills staff since 2009! My wife and I moved up here a year after graduating college down in southern California. Since moving up here, our family has grown to the chaotic number of 7, and we are loving this season of life. I am passionate about worship, and passionate about the sufficiency of Scripture. I believe my job here is that of a tour guide. The best tour guides aren’t necessarily the funniest, or most knowledgeable, they are the ones who are truly enamored by what is being put on display. My goal as the worship pastor, and our goal as the worship ministry, is to find ourselves leading from a place of adoration and awe for the God who’s glory is on display all around us.

Adult Ministry Pastor

I was born and raised in the midwest, near Chicago. I graduated from Moody Bible Institute and then spent the next 14 years serving in various pastoral roles within student and adult ministry at two churches in the Chicago suburbs. It was during these years that the Lord really solidified my conviction that small groups are the primary discipleship vehicle within the local church. It’s a blessing to be here at Canyon Hills, ministering alongside others who share that same conviction. To Him be the Glory as we make more and better disciples in our Life Group ministry.

Student Ministry Lead & Residency Pastor

I am the Student Ministry Lead & Residency Pastor at Canyon Hills and consider myself incredibly blessed to serve students and their families at this church. I enjoy being a part of the process as God takes a student and forms them into a spiritual leader among their peers, church and community. I believe wholeheartedly in the power of a student ministry as I myself came to Christ in a High school ministry that met in a converted liquor store that saw countless students find Jesus in it. It was there that I was invited by a friend in High School to meet Jesus and his people. My life was never the same. I grew up in the Bay Area in California which means my favorite football team wears Red and Gold (sorry, can’t help it). I went to school at Simpson University in Redding, CA where I got my education towards ministry and met my wife. Apart from God and Family my closest loves are soccer (the real football), The San Francisco Giants (even years!), tacos (especially out of a truck) and playing the drums (not as good as most). I also won’t give up the dream that one day I’ll have my own wood-working shop in my house. One day!

Senior Adults Pastor

I was born in Seattle then moved to Eastern Washington, to Pasco, for most of my childhood and then I lived in the Kirkland area for my teen years. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior in High School, through Young Life, at Lake Washington High School – Go Kangs! I love sports, coffee, and all kinds of music… except country. That’s not really music. I met my wife Cindy in Bible college and after graduation I served at Overlake Christian Church for 14 years as a student ministries pastor. In the middle of that time we moved to Lancaster, California and pastored at Central Christian Church for 3 ½ years. I first moved to serve at Canyon Hills when the church was 6 months old. I pastored here in many various roles for the next 15 years. I then moved to Bellingham where I served as the lead pastor at Northlake Community Church for nearly 9 ½ years. I now serve at Canyon Hills as the pastor to Senior Adults. I am so excited to be “back home” and I’m looking forward to what God will do in and through our ministry to senior adults. I love Canyon Hills and I love my new role.
