Frequently asked Questions:
Who is able to earn this credential?
The CHCC Counseling Credential is for Canyon Hills members only, and utilized within the Counseling Ministry at the church. This is recognized by Canyon Hills, but not nationally (as ACBC Certification is).
What is the cost to earn the credential?
Cost will vary slightly, but one can expect this to be between $150-200, apart from attending the Counseling Conference in May (optional, but highly encouraged). Costs can be reduced by borrowing books instead of purchasing, or completing observations more quickly. This is significantly less than most ACBC courses, as we desire to get people in as quickly as possible.
What if I have already completed portions of the credential?
If you have taken Fundamentals since 2021, you will not need to repeat the course. You may hop into the credential process at the Observation Class. If you have watched the observation videos previously, you will not need to rewatch (unless you prefer), but we do ask that you join the class for some additional teaching, discussion, and so our counseling team can get to know you better. Everyone seeking the credential will need to complete the steps from the Observation class on.
How is this different than ACBC Certification?
The Canyon Hills Credential builds toward getting ACBC Certified. We highly encourage the ACBC Certification process, but know it can take longer to work towards. We are an ACBC Training Center, and the credential will complete most of Phase One of ACBC Certification. You can learn more about ACBC Certification here: www.biblicalcounseling.com/certification
What is biblical counseling, and if I have other counseling training, can I still get credentialed?
As an ACBC Training Center, our counselors will need to be in alignment with our policies and procedures. We do not use any method of counseling apart from biblical counseling in our offices (we do not integrate other methodologies of counseling). You can learn more about biblical counseling in our Fundamentals Class!
What if I am unable to attend a class in person?
Fundamentals may be taken in person, live online, or by watching the class via video recording within the same week as class (you must keep the pace of the class). Anyone may take this class! The Observation Class will be in person only, so please plan accordingly to attend at CHCC for the 5 weeks this class occurs.
Are there any prerequisites?
There are no prerequisites for this course, as Fundamentals is where we want you to start! Once you are signed up for the course, you will receive information about materials to order for class.
