We will be launching a second campus in South Everett to continue our mission of making more and better disciples of Jesus. This allows us to meet a real gospel need in the South Everett community while also creating room for continued ministry and growth at our Bothell campus.
The South Everett Campus is located just off I-5 at the 128th Street exit on the northwest side. It shares a parking lot with the Holiday Inn, La Quinta Inn, Kids Country Daycare, and the casino. The campus is approximately 15 minutes from our Bothell location.
Our goal in launching a second campus isn’t to spread the name of Canyon Hills—it’s reaching more people for Jesus. A second campus gives us a way to multiply our mission while maintaining the biblical teaching, ministry values, and church culture that have shaped our people. Rather than starting something entirely new, we’re planting the same DNA in a new place with the same goal: to make more and better disciples of Jesus.
The campus will be called Canyon Hills Community Church: South Everett Campus.
Our current campus will be called Canyon Hills Community Church: Bothell Campus.
The purpose of the second campus is to make more and better disciples of Jesus.
At this point, we see that happening in two key ways:
First, by reaching the South Everett community: an area with a clear need for a gospel-centered church. Second, by encouraging as many people as possible to transition from our Bothell campus, creating space to continue making more and better disciples in Bothell.
As we move closer to the launch, we will be intentional in developing a clear strategy for both.
This is a question our elders have prayerfully considered from the beginning. While church planting is a good, godly, and a vital way to advance the gospel, we came to see that starting a second campus serves a different purpose—one uniquely suited to our current situation as a church.
The decision to launch a second campus is not about expanding the brand of Canyon Hills—we’ve said from the start that this is never our goal. Our heart is to make more disciples of Jesus, and in this case, to do so in a part of our region where there’s both gospel need and opportunity. At the same time, we’re also addressing a very real and growing challenge: the limited capacity of our Bothell Campus.
A second campus allows us to do both—reach new people in South Everett with the gospel and better shepherd those already coming to Canyon Hills. It gives us a way to multiply our mission while maintaining the biblical teaching, ministry values, and church culture that have shaped our people. Rather than starting something entirely new, we’re planting the same DNA in a new place with the same goal: to make more and better disciples of Jesus.
Over the last several years, our church has been generously giving toward a second campus. As a result, we were able to pay cash for the building and already have much of the funding needed for the remodel. We will be giving the church family an opportunity to contribute specifically toward the remodel process. While we have the ability to fund the project today, continued generosity will not only help bring this campus to life—it will also allow us to remain open-handed toward future ministry opportunities and continue supporting other local ministries along the way.
The role of the Campus Pastor is to provide consistent leadership, care, and direction for the South Everett Campus. The vision is for the campus pastor to be part of our teaching team, to shepherd those attending South Everett, and to lead the effort in reaching the surrounding community with the gospel.
While the campus pastor will be present at the South Everett Campus and offer unique, localized shepherding care to that congregation, the pastoral team at Canyon Hills will continue to function as a unified body, giving collective leadership and oversight to Christ’s Church as a whole. The campus pastor will operate as an extension of that shared leadership—helping to ensure that the heart, doctrine, and mission of Canyon Hills remain fully aligned across both campuses.
Our goal is for Sunday services at the South Everett Campus to reflect the same worship experience as the Bothell Campus. We plan to have live preaching at both campuses, using our current teaching team and expanding the staff as needed. Live worship will also take place at both campuses, with worship leaders and volunteer teams rotating between locations.
Both campuses will follow the same teaching schedule and worship direction using the same Scriptures and themes each week. While we expect live preaching to be the norm, there may be occasional Sundays when the same message is shared across both campuses via video. This would be reserved for special moments when we want the entire church to hear a unified message, and it would be used sparingly.
Kids Ministry and Student Ministry will be as aligned as possible between campuses—including curriculum, messages, materials, and environment. We’ll also be establishing a dedicated First Impressions Team (FIT) at South Everett to ensure guests and members are warmly welcomed and cared for from the moment they arrive.
Initially, we will be focusing on Sunday morning services in South Everett and leave all other programming to the Bothell campus. Once we open the campus, we will have a better idea of what additional programming is needed in South Everett.
At the start, our primary focus in South Everett will be on launching healthy and well-supported Sunday morning services. All other ministry programming—such as midweek gatherings, classes, and events—will continue to take place at the Bothell Campus.
At the outset, all ministries not directly tied to Sunday morning services will remain based at the Bothell Campus. This includes Life Groups, midweek programming, Men’s and Women’s Ministries, Young Adults, Encore, School of Discipleship, the Food Bank, Counseling, and Aid & Assistance.
Additionally, our Special Needs Ministry will initially be offered only at the Bothell Campus.
As the South Everett Campus becomes established, there is potential for some of these ministries to expand and take root locally. However, our initial focus will be on building a strong foundation for Sunday worship and care before adding additional layers of ministry.
While we recognize that each campus will naturally reflect some of its own unique characteristics, we are committed to maintaining the heart, culture, and quality of ministry that people have come to expect and regularly experience at Canyon Hills.
One key way we’ll do this is by having our preaching and worship teams rotate between both campuses, helping to ensure consistency in teaching, worship, and leadership. We’re also intentionally designing the space of South Everett Campus to reflect the familiar environment of our Bothell Campus—so that when you walk in, it feels like Canyon Hills.
From day one, we also plan to launch with a strong and welcoming First Impressions Team (FIT) to help create the same warm, gospel-centered atmosphere that defines who we are as a church.
We understand that safety is an important concern, and we are taking it seriously as we prepare to launch the South Everett Campus. Our Security Coordinator (a former police detective with the City of Everett) and our Director of Operations are already developing a comprehensive security plan for the new campus.
This plan will include installing a robust system of security cameras, similar to what we currently have in place at the Bothell Campus, as well as recruiting and training a dedicated security team for Sunday services and other events. Our goal is to provide a safe, welcoming environment where people can worship and serve with confidence.
Yes—and that’s been one of the most encouraging parts of this process. During the feasibility phase, members of our leadership team attended a quarterly meeting with property owners in the business park where the South Everett Campus will be located. We came in cautiously, anticipating concerns about parking or increased weekend activity.
Instead, we were met with genuine excitement. The business park has a strong relationship with local law enforcement, and several owners and officers expressed how glad they were to see a church moving in. One officer even said, “I’m excited for a church to be here—I’d go to that church.”
A representative from a nearby business (who had also placed a bid on the property) approached us afterward to say they were glad we got the building and looked forward to working together.
We’ve been encouraged by the warm reception and are excited to become part of the South Everett community.
While we have the ability to fund the project today, continued generosity will not only help bring this campus to life—it will also allow us to remain open-handed toward future ministry opportunities and continue supporting other local ministries along the way.
